I absolutely agree that my focus on him is not helping my focus on me. And, truly, someone "telling me" the best way was never as life-changing as experiencing it first-hand. So, yes. I believe that unless he's putting himself or other people in physical harm, leave it alone. You can't know what lessons await him by going through this--lessons he has to learn and things that he has to experience.
